dblive Sid LeRock
DJ Sid LeRock’s dblive was recorded at the Killekill, which takes place at the Berghain Kantine club in Berlin, Germany. Characterized by a synthetic sonority, LeRock’s set combines elements that range from genres as varied as techno, electro, minimal, and rock. There couldn’t be a better demonstration of the Rockno style – term coined by Sid himself to designate the fusion between rock and techno.
Canadian-born Sid LeRock started his DJ career about fifteen years ago. Throughout his trajectory, he has moved to different places until finally establishing residence in Cologne (Germany), where he currently lives.
As a producer, Sid LeRock is the man behind a number of individual and collective projects, in which he goes by the names of Pan/Tone, Gringo Grinder, and others. In this interview, you get to know a little more about the ideas and routine of this unique artist.
What are your influences?
There are so many I couldn’t list them all. In any case, my Top 3 would probably be: Fugazi, AC/DC and Ween.
What would the perfect moment to listen to your set be?
Anytime, anywhere. All by yourself, in the company of friends or even in the company of enemies. In a helicopter, in the bathroom, with your grandma… I don’t know. In a ghetto just like those of the 80’s, contemplating a pleasurable sunset, or even in the middle of a hurricane…
Tell us a little about your set. How did you compose it? What were your inspirations?
It’s a set I’ve come up with for the release of my pre-album. With little time to rehearse or soundcheck, I ended up coming to the conclusion that the best thing to do would be getting drunk and then perform. Fortunately, it worked out just fine, somehow; the party had a considerable audience.
When did your interest in music first begin?
I’ve been into music since I was a child. When in school, I learned by myself how to play “Eye of the Tiger” with the flute. The girls used to dig it…
What are your current projects?
I am involved in a number of solo projects: Sid LeRock, Pan/Tone, Gringo Grinder, Shelbono “Barracuda” Del Monte, and others. In my collaboration projects, I go by the name of Slang Bang and The Cereal Killers. Besides, I have recently started the Beachcoma project alongside some friends of Fairmont & Metope. We’ve come up with this project so as to perform live and also to promote our new label: Beachcoma Recordings.
