What was the most memorable set you played this year, and the most memorable venue where you performed?
Difficul question… I’ve had some great gigs this year. One of my favorites certainly was at the Panorama Bar, in Berlin. The sun was already rising, they had opened up the window blinds and everybody raised their hands in the air, it was unforgettable! I also remember my live set at the Goa party, in Madrid. It took place in a Sunday during daylight, with about ten thousand people dancing under the tents.
Another memorable gig was at the Costa bar, in Isabella, Puerto Rico. It happens to be a small beach bar with an amazing atmosphere, the same being true concerning the local audience. And, of course, the gig at D-Edge… so, there were lots of great parties for me this year.
What are your upcoming releases? What do you intend to do until the end of this year?
There’s this new track I’ve made alongside Dave DK and Richard Davis, entitled “You Will Find Out”. It’s just come out by Moodmusic and it’s also in my set. Besides, I’ve come up with a new remix for Kiki’s “Immortal”, which should be coming out November 30th.
In the beginning of next year I’ll have an unpublished track released in the 10th anniversary compilation of BPitch, and also a remix of “Big ‘n‘ Round” which is a song contained in Claude Von Stroke‘s new album (this one is also in my set). Some other significant releases will be my remixes that are coming out by Playhouse. They include tracks by Daso, Vincenzo, Zander VT, Marco Ressmann, Rodriguez Jr. and Franklin de Costa. And many other novelties are on their way!
Holger Zilske is the man behind SmashTV, project through which he released his debut album by German label BPitch Control, in 2001. Since then, Zilske has been changing his musical style while producing and remixing tracks for labels such as Leena, Battle and Playhouse.
In March this year, he released his first authorial album, Holz, in which he flirts with the subtle, sophisticated nuances of microhouse. Very well acclaimed by critics and public, this DJ and producer has recently been to Brazil where he made some praised performances at D-Edge and on the Dropkick web radio, both in São Paulo. He recorded some of his favorite tracks for deepbeep and also provided us with a remix he’s made for Claude Von Stroke’s “Big ‘n’ Round” – an unpublished piece supposed to be out early in 2010.
Tell us about this mix. Where was it recorded and why have you chosen these particular tracks?
It was recorded in my own studio and features some of the things I’ve been into recently. Some of them are suitable to be played at clubs, but at the same time they can also be suitable for home listening due to the sweetness implied in them.
In your first album, there’s a great track entitled “Olho Gordo”. Where did you take the inspiration for this title from?
I’ve been to Brazil last year and during a dinner I was invited to, everything I could understand of what my friends were saying was the expression “olho gordo” (Portuguese equivalent for “evil eye”, an expression designating a look or thought capable of inflicting injury or bad luck on the person at whom it is directed). I asked them what the meaning was, and I couldn’t get it out of my head ever since.
